In Conclusion…….!
There are many things we
didn’t do. We had the opportunity to see
Hadrian’s Wall on the way to Christian’s, or the Rome Museum
in Cirencester. As the flight back
loomed, the holiday became about seeing the people we wanted to see, before the
history. Frankly, the kids preferred a
decent swing park than a pile of old stones (sigh!). However, sadly, there were
too many people we couldn’t see; cousins Julia-John,
Denise-Stephen, Richard-Anne, John-Dianne, Pam-Rob, Bassam,
Vonnie, Ester-John, Vic,
Tom-Jean, Steve Gray. The list goes on and is too long.
We have left
(unintentional) bits of. ourselves around the UK; Callum’s Shark in Cirencester,
Thunderbirds in Thame, my mobile charger is somewhere, and Christian was
grateful for one of my used anti-snore nose patches.
However, there is no
single thing pulling me back to the UK.
I miss all our friends and family we saw, but at times I was deeply
homesick for New Zealand. When will I get back to the UK? I don’t know.
It’ll certainly be difficult taking the kids out of school for that
length of time. Karyn won’t get 7 weeks
off again. And, we’ll be paying for this
little number for some considerable time.
This holiday has been an
absolute tonic. After what’s gone on
over the last three years, I haven’t enjoyed looking in the mirror too
often. Yet, when too many of my friends
say, “It’s great—you are still you!” then I realize I must still be the good
guy they tell me I was. Must tell myself
that more often. Love to you all— and
thank you.
